Juan Carlos Merlo, President of LEBA

January 14, 2019

Hey you, welcome to LEBA. If this is your first introduction to our great community, I am honored to be the first line of contact and representative of the great things happening in our organization.

Whether you are looking for a solid group of friends, superior professional networking, amazing events with over 300+ attendees or simply a community that understands what it means to be a LatinX in America, then we are happy to announce that we are perfect for you.

I have seen this organization grow from under 70 to over 200+ members in the four years I have served as an officer, as well as grow tremendously in the quantity and quality of our philanthropic, social and academic events. As I reflect over my college career and acknowledge my days as a Senior in this great community are numbered, I recognize the advancement we have made not only as a Latinx community of professionals and friends but also as a diverse network of human beings who have impacted our surroundings.

We have truly empowered and impacted the Austin community of LatinX’s and it’s no wonder we have groups from neighboring colleges (such as St. Edwards, A&M, SMU, Baylor, etc.) continually asking us for help and trying to replicate what we have here at UT. We have something special and as President I want you to know that your membership not only provides you with access to premier LatinX events but also ultimately aids in pushing our advocacy for diversity and community in the workplace and general community.

Juan Carlos Merlo is a Finance Senior in the McCombs School of Business.
